27 primary schools participated in this year's Children's Christmas concerts held on Thursday 27th and Friday 28th November, with a total of 950 children and approx 1,600 audience members over the two nights.

"The radiance and joy of the children was a real delight to watch: each school chose a different song, with a great variety in the music choices," said Fr Dominic Howarth, Director of the Youth Service

"Some of the songs were moving and reflective, others were very upbeat. The atmosphere on both nights was wonderful, and the applause for the children was heartfelt."

The second half of the show was an original musical, Christ Child, written by a local music teacher, Georgie Wilson, and her daughter Lucy. Accompanied by harp and clarinet, this musical told the Christmas story in a lively and engaging way.

Overall approximately £3,000 was raised which will help the work of the Brentwood Catholic Children's Society and Brentwood Catholic Youth Service. Next year's concerts are 3rd and 4th December 2009, and these will also be part of the celebrations of 25 years of the Brentwood Catholic Children's Society.
